Beginners Yoga on the Go – part one

Chance to Travel

When the opportunity arises to spend a weekend in a beautiful, sunny place, seize it. Dive into the adventure because every moment is precious. The most meaningful experiences often come from those moments without expectations. The simple excitement of a new location brings a mix of positive emotions that deserve to be felt.

October in Bulgaria can be unpredictable, with sharp temperature fluctuations. As summer fades, there’s a collective yearning for its warmth. I believe that wishing for something can help make it happen. Without any plans or preparations, I suddenly found myself with the chance to visit Greece—specifically, the stunning island of Rhodes.

It wasn’t on my radar, but I quickly rearranged my schedule to catch some sun. This decision wasn’t selfish; it was an impromptu journey for personal fulfilment. Overthinking can cloud our judgment and cause us to miss unique opportunities that life presents.

Travel, especially when spontaneous, can lead to unforgettable experiences and insights. So, when the chance arises, take it. You might just discover new parts of yourself along the way.

Exploring Rhodes: A Yoga and Travel Adventure

Rhodes is an impressive island, the largest of the Dodecanese in the Aegean Sea. It boasts stunning beaches, both expansive and tucked away in rocky alcoves. The crystal-clear waters invite you to dive in—a slice of heaven that offers sunshine even late in October.

Traveling Light for Weekend Getaways

When planning short weekend trips, compact luggage is essential. Traveling light saves money and provides flexibility. Unfortunately, there’s often no room for yoga mats or blocks. Instead, pack two pairs of leggings and tops for comfort during both yoga and casual walks. This approach works wonders, weather permitting—unless you’re facing harsh winter conditions.

The beauty of yoga is its versatility. You can practice anywhere and anytime with the right mindset. Even without a mat, you can deepen your practice. For me, the lack of equipment led to discovering excellent spots that I might have overlooked.

Driven by my desire to improve, I practiced in beautiful locations. I incorporated familiar poses into my daily routine. As a beginner—just three months in—and mindful of my spine, I focused on poses I felt confident about. This allowed me to enjoy brief, reenergizing yoga sessions.

These beginner-friendly poses can be done anywhere with enough space to stretch. Embrace the journey and let your surroundings inspire your practice!

My Revitalizing Yoga Sequence in Rhodes

Here’s the yoga sequence I practiced during my time in Rhodes:

Easy Pose (Sukhasana):

I began by relaxing and expressing gratitude for the beautiful surroundings.

Plank:

This pose helps stretch my body while warming up my back and shoulders.

Wild Thing (Camatkarasana):

This pose opens the shoulders, lungs, and chest. It also stretches the hip flexors and fronts of the legs, builds strength in the upper back, and enhances blood circulation.

Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana):

A daily essential, this pose stretches the entire upper body and opens the heart, relieving tension in the back and shoulders from prolonged sitting.

Child’s Pose (Balasana):

This forward bend promotes relaxation and breath focus, stretching the back, neck, shoulders, and ankles. It’s a perfect transition pose within any yoga flow.

Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana):

This fundamental pose improves flexibility and opens the back of the legs, especially beneficial for those who sit for long periods.

Three-Legged Downward Dog (Tri Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana):

This variation stretches and lengthens muscles while enhancing concentration and boosting circulation.

Extended Puppy (Uttana Shishosana):

Ideal for gently stretching the spine, relieving shoulder and neck tension, and opening the chest.

No matter where you are—at home, in a hotel, or outdoors—you can always incorporate yoga into your life.

I cherished practicing outdoors in Rhodes, feeling rejuvenated by my surroundings.

Invest in yourself, and don’t wait. Start your yoga journey even while traveling.

Stay inspired and open to the opportunities life provides!
